Platform for young talents

Venue : Pejalan Kaki KOMTAR, Jln Dr Lim Chee Leong.
Date : 21st June 2008 (Saturday)
Time : 8PM – 11PM

YOUTHS who are interested in showcasing their talents will be able to do so at the weekly Youth Night to be held at the Komtar pedestrian mall in Penang from next month.

Penang Youth, Sports, Women, Family and Community Develop-ment Committee chairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi said parents could bring along their children to join in the healthy entertainment activity rather than having the children spend their time in nightclubs or cyber cafes.

Youth Night project manager Steven Yam from Delight Creations said the stage at the pedestrian mall was not only open for those into singing and band performances but also for those interested in dancing, acting or fashion design.

“We can accommodate a fashion show, hip hop dance or drama performance if there are enough participants,” he said.

Those interested to showcase their talents can contact Yam at 017-5902698 or his Delight Creations Partner CK at 012-4749579.

The Komtar Event Night kicked off with Ong singing Unchained Melody with a group of young talents called Reve.

Next were band performances by Total Lost and Zero Origin as well as unplugged singing performances by Wen Han and Zhen Kwang.

Introduction about KOMTAR Night

Objective / Mission

Our mission is to promote healthy interaction among youths in Penang through exciting yet non-harmful activities in a safe environment. (E.g. Outdoor Futsal Competition)

To give local talented youths a platform to shine in by displaying their performance or works to the public. (E.g. Music, band, Dance, Cultural Art, Fashion)

To educate and encourage teenagers and young adults not to indulge themselves in negative activities such spending time playing computer games at home or in cybercafes.

To avoid youths from getting themselves involved in gangsterism activities due to lack of knowledge and awareness.

To create a new mindset for youths in pursuing a cool alternative lifestyle that does not involve smoking, alcohol and drugs.

To restore back KOMTAR to its glory days and make it an exciting place to hang out for youths and their families in months to come.
